The main Freeskiing disciplines

  • Slopestyle: This discipline combines various obstacles such as rails, boxes, and kicker jumps. Freeskiers must create a smooth and stylish line through the snowpark while performing technical tricks. Slopestyle is a major event in competitions like the X Games and the Winter Olympics.

  • Halfpipe: Skiers perform their best tricks in a large, snow-covered pipe. The halfpipe demands extreme control, as athletes execute high airs and complex spins. Perfect landings are crucial to maintaining the momentum of the run.

  • Big Air: Focused on individual, breathtaking jumps, this discipline challenges skiers to combine as many rotations and grabs as possible in a single leap. Big Air events are crowd favorites, as skiers reach incredible heights.

  • Railjam: This discipline emphasizes technical tricks on rails and boxes. Balance, precision, and creativity are key. Railjams are often part of freestyle competitions or snowpark events.

  • Freeride: Taking place off-piste, freeride skiing is all about navigating untouched powder, riding spectacular lines, and incorporating natural features such as cliffs and rock drops. Freeride requires experience and awareness of avalanche risks and terrain challenges.

Each Freeskiing discipline requires unique skills and techniques. Whether you prefer Slopestyle, Halfpipe, Big Air, or Freeride, there’s a challenge for every skier! Exploring different disciplines will expand your skills and open up new possibilities in snowparks and backcountry terrains.
